As part of the celebrations for the UAE's 53rd National Day, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai organized an honorary event at the Al Hamriya Port Council, in collaboration with the Dubai Fishermen Cooperative Association. The initiative aims to highlight the pivotal role of Emirati fishermen in preserving traditional crafts and affirming the connection between national identity and the country’s maritime heritage. The event was attended by Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director-General of GDRFA Dubai and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai.

Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor emphasized in his speech the importance of sustaining traditional crafts as part of the UAE’s cultural heritage. He pointed out that fishermen are not merely practitioners of an age-old profession but also guardians of a rich maritime legacy filled with values and traditions. He added that the wise leadership continuously strives to enhance the quality of life for all community members, including fishermen, by listening to their views and needs and launching initiatives that ensure the sustainability of their work while reinforcing their position within the UAE's social fabric.

The visit concluded with the honoring of 25 Emirati fishermen who exemplify dedication to the fishing craft. Modern fishing equipment was distributed to support their continued vital role, reflecting the leadership’s vision and commitment to supporting Emirati artisans and ensuring the sustainability of traditional crafts, which serve as a testament to the nation’s history and cultural heritage.

This initiative is part of the efforts of the GDRFA Dubai to promote national identity and celebrate the UAE's cultural heritage.
