The 2020 Fraud Conference Middle East started its fifth edition

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The 2020 Fraud Conference Middle East started its fifth edition today. The conference hosted by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai in cooperation with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the world’s largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education. With more than 400 participation of a group of leaders, senior officials, prominent speakers and specialists in the areas of transparency from all over the world. The conference will be held from February 23 to February 25 at Madinat Jumeirah, within the framework of a comprehensive work program of keynote addresses, seminars and panel sessions that focused on understanding the root causes of fraud and identifying best practices against fraud practices and the negative consequences for society. The conference will also address the most important global issues that have emerged in light of developments in the technology and financial sector in institutions, with the aim to exchange best practices, knowledge and expertise in the area of anti-fraud and confront professional fraud cases, as the conference constitutes a leading platform for exchanging experiences and expertise, and discussing the latest trends and tools in the areas of fraud detection and countering it. Addressing the General session H.E. Abdulla Mohammed Saeed Ghobash, Director General of Dubai’s Financial Audit Authority; H.E. Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai; Bruce Dorris, J.D., CFE, CPA, the president and CEO of the ACFE; Dr. Alexander Wagner, Associate Professor of Finance University of Zurich. The conference witnesses the attendees of Hamad Al Hurr AlSawaidi Chairman of Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority, H.E Abdulrahman Saleh AlSaleh, Director General of the Government of Dubai’s Department of Finance. Major General Khalil Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigations Affairs and number of officials and in GDRFA Dubai and entities. On this occasion His Excellency Major General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai said: “I would like to thank and appreciate the wise leadership for their direct guidance and continued support for all initiatives and events that promote the sustainable development process. I would like also to thank the Association Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE) for giving us the opportunity to host this distinguished event that includes experts and specialists in the field of anti-fraud, to highlight the risks and damages resulting from such practices and abuses.” H.E Al Marri added: “This conference will be an ideal opportunity to support efforts to find lasting solutions to establish accounting principles and come up with recommendations that will establish transparency and integrity as a main pillar in anti-fraud. The conference will also allow participants to learn about the latest international practices and joint efforts to enhance joint action to develop strategies to mitigate the impact of fraud cases.” “we are fully confident that this conference will constitute a strong impetus towards the adoption of more effective global actions and initiatives.” Al Marri said. On his part H.E. Abdulla Mohammed Saeed Ghobash, Director General of Dubai’s Financial Audit Authority spoke about the effort of official and leaders in anti-fraud. He also spoke about legislation, laws developed by the Financial Audit Authority and its role in preserving public money. H.E indicated that the Financial Audit Authority provides training courses for employees of government and semi-government entities to refine their skills in the field of fraud. Stressing that the work team of the Authority are all Emirati cadre that now internationally qualified in the field. Bruce Dorris, J.D., CFE, CPA, the president and CEO of the ACFE, expressed his happiness of hosting the 2020 ACFE conference Middle East because of its great importance in spreading knowledge in this field and building bridges of cooperation with all concerned authorities of anti- fraud. “the conference will serve as an opportunity for experts and specialists in anti-fraud to meet and discuss the latest trends and tools in area of anti- Fraud and monitoring.” Bruce said. Dr. Alexander Wagner a senior chair at the Swiss Finance Institute and an associate professor of finance at the University of Zurich. He earned his Ph.D. in political economy from Harvard University. Prior to that, he completed studies in economics and law in his home town of Linz, Austria, addressed his keynote speech, where he spoke about studies that were conducted on 200 electronic cases in the field of fraud, and on how to discover these cases and find the solution. He also spoke about the integrity, transparency and accountability and its importance in institutions. Dr. Wanger also talked about the means that can use to anti-fraud, so institutions must be familiar with the means of fraud to know the problem and address it to preserve the institution’s money. The conference will continue its work tomorrow Monday, where a number of sessions will be deliver.
