- Environmental-cultural event organised in collaboration with The Sustainable City -Dubai targeting Safa British School students
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai has launched an environmental-cultural event for children involving about 24 fourth-grade students from Safa British School.
The move comes in support of the "Year of Sustainability," announced by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan under the slogan "Today for Tomorrow," and is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to launch national initiatives that instil sustainability as a permanent societal norm in the UAE and for its future generations.
The event, which took place on June 5 to coincide with World Environment Day, was organised in cooperation with The Sustainable City - Dubai , reflecting GDRFA’s commitment, along with other state institutions, to celebrate this important date annually.
The gathering featured a series of interactive activities, including an immersive show, story readings, free drawing workshops, and a community tour that provided insights into the environmental solutions in The Sustainable City in Dubai. The pioneering project embodies the highest environmental solutions, such as using clean energy, recycling all water and waste, growing food, and encouraging soft and electric mobility options. It is recognized globally as a working model for future cities, reflecting Dubai's forward-looking vision. Additionally, Beit Fann Studio hosted a special children's workshop on World Environment Day, aimed at enhancing awareness of sustainability's critical role in mitigating climate change risks.
GDRFA emphasised that this initiative aims to boost community awareness about the importance of sustainability and its vital role in ensuring the prosperity and quality of life for the community. It aligns with the goals of the Year of Sustainability, recognising that the forthcoming phases of development require an educated and aware generation.
It also represents a step in the right direction towards promoting sustainable development and environmental protection through community initiatives that target various groups, particularly school students and young people, and inspire them to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, contributing to the creation of a better world for future generations.
